INDIGOMED health care facilities follow a quality and ethical chart that conforms to European inpatient’s rights to quality health care.
The general principles can be summarized as follows:
- Every INDIGOMED patient is free to choose the health care institution they want to take care of them, subject to the limitations of each institution. The European public hospital service is accessible to everyone and, in the event of emergency, to people without medical coverage. The service is also adapted to the needs of handicapped people.
- Health care institutions must guarantee the quality of reception, treatment, and care. They must be attentive to pain relief and do everything possible to ensure that every patient is treated with dignity at every stage of the treatment process.
- Information given to every patient must be accessible and reliable. The inpatient must participate in their choice of treatment. He or she can be assisted by a freely-chosen and trusted support person.
- A medical procedure can be conducted only with the free and informed consent of the patient. The patient has the right to refuse all treatments.
- A patient, if asked to participate in biomedical research, must be informed of the expected benefits and the foreseeable risks. Their agreement must be given in writing. The patient’s refusal to participate will not have any effect on the quality of care they receive.
- The inpatient can, unless otherwise provided for by law, leave the institution at any time after having been informed of any risks that may be incurred.
- The inpatient must be treated with consideration. Their beliefs must be respected. They must be ensured privacy and a peaceful and quiet health care environment.
- The privacy of every patient is respected and guaranteed, as well as the confidentiality of their personal, administrative, medical, and social information.
- The inpatient (or their legal representatives) benefits from direct access to health information concerning them. Under certain conditions, in the event of death, their beneficiaries will benefit from the same right.
- The inpatient can express their views on the care and reception provided. In each institution, a commission for relationships with users and the quality of care provided ensures the rights of users are respected. Every patient has the right to be heard by a manager of the institution, to express grievances and request compensation for harm to which they believe they have been subjected, either before the courts, within the context of an amicable settlement procedure, or both.
